NFL teams are clearly very comfortable drafting Nick Saban coached prospects. Four Alabama players were taken in the first round of the 2011 Draft. The senior class is also bursting with talent with Courtney Upshaw, Mark Barron, Marquis Maze and Josh Chapman all in my pre-season top 50 prospects. This is the first big test for them to see if they can live up to that billing.

For the Nittany Lions, Devon Still clearly has a great deal of talent. He was inconsistent in 2010 though, so can he put in a solid performance against the SEC powerhouse?

Marquis Maze – wide receiver – although Maze was kept fairly quiet with just four receptions, he still made a big impact on the game with a field position changing 48 yard punt return. On the play he fielded the ball at the five yard line and was able to make the first man miss, then pick up a big block to spring him for the huge play. Alabama actually struggled to get the passing going at all (AJ McCarron only complete 19 passes for 163 yards) and clearly the change in quarterback and increased attention with Julio Jones leaving for the NFL didn’t help Maze. They attempted to get him going with two screens and a reverse but both gained little and indeed the reverse lost yardage. He was able to make a nice catch on a 29 yard post route, the defensive back flashed in front of him, but he was able to keep his concentration and make the catch. Maze is clearly very quick and at 5’10” 182 lbs is perfect for the slot position and can help in the return game. His stock may suffer a little unless the quarterback play picks up, but he does have talent.
